Mido for Blues?

The latest name to be associated with a move to St Andrew’s is the Egyptian striker Mido.

Although a mere whisper at the moment, this rumour has caused considerable interest on fans’ forums.

Mido found himself left out at White Hart Lane last season after the stunning displays by Berbatov and Keane made it difficult for him to break through into the first team.

He managed only a handful of first team appearances this year despite his good contribution in the 2005-2006 campaign.

Still only 24, the Egyptian international’s CV already includes Roma, Marseilles, Celta Vigo and Ajax, but he has a reputation for sulking which may account for why he has aleady worked his way through so many clubs.

However, he has many of the attributes that Blues would be looking for in a striker. He is tall, strong and fast and would provide an excellent foil for the likes of Jerome and McSheffrey. Although not the most prolific scorer (12 goals last season) he is a good provider.

Steve Bruce has a good record with fragile egos so maybe Mido’s temperament is less of an issue.

The rumoured asking price is £1.5M, a considerable loss on the sum that Spurs parted with to buy him from Roma just under a year ago. With Berbatov pledging himself to the cause and Keane unlikely to move on, it is easy to see why Mido might be considering cutting his losses in London.

If this rumour has legs at all, then many Blues fans will be hoping that David Sullivan has his chequebook at the ready, as he could be a top-notch acquisition for the club.
