Middlesbrough are set to return with a new and improved bid for Birmingham City defender Ryan Shotton, according to a source close to Vital Birmingham.

Harry Redknapp confirmed on Saturday that the club had rejected a bid from Boro for the 28-year-old defender after an offer that didn’t meet the valuation.

We understand that Garry Monk and Middlesbrough will come back with a fresh bid tomorrow with the Championship rivals looking to bolster their defensive options.

Shotton featured 43 times in the Championship for Blues last season, after being signed permanantly by Gary Rowett just over a year ago.
