Birmingham City winger Gary McSheffrey is set to return to Coventry City when his current contract expires at the end of June.

Blues picked up the player from Coventry in 2006 and has netted 20 times in 96 appearances for the club. But McSheffrey has struggled to make any impact on the Premiership and slipped down the pecking order at St Andrews. He has spent time with Leeds and Nottingham Forest on loan.

But the Sky Blues has offered the player a lifeline with a twelve month deal.

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish told the club`s official site: ‘We wish Gary all the best. He did well for us and hopefully he can recapture the form of a couple of years ago when we signed him from Coventry.’
