‘Two goals in extra time, I’ll take that!’ bellowed Gary McSheffrey after breaking his duck and helping to take us through to the next round of the cup.

Speaking to the local press Gary spoke of his relief at registering his first goals for the club and claimed that they would be the first of many.

‘It’s a nice feeling to get off the mark. Two goals, albeit in extra-time, I will take that.

‘I have not really hit any goals as sweet as that one with my right foot, everyone knows it’s my standing foot!

‘I would have taken any goal as my first, but when it goes in like that, it’s an extra special feeling.

‘I had a few chances on Saturday against Ipswich, when the goalkeeper made a few good saves. And I hit the crossbar last night. That’s how it has tended to be for me since I came.

‘I said after Ipswich once I get one hopefully the pressure will be off and they will start flying in.

Steve Bruce was also happy that Sheff managed to break his duck:

‘We are absolutely delighted that he scored.

‘When the free-kick hit the crossbar, after he went close with a previous one, I was thinking ‘is the ball ever going to go in for him?’

‘Then he hits a wonder strike with his right foot and gets one of the easiest he will ever score for his second.

‘He has given us everything I thought he would do since he joined us. He provides you that dimension where he wants to score a goal and that’s the pleasing thing for me from a wide area.

‘That’s why we chased and chased him. He’s very unselfish, works hard for the team and has a great attitude for it. That was his seventh assist last night, the cross for our first goal. And we think he is only going to get better. He is very popular, fantastic in the dressing room. He is just starting to find himself as he’s only been here four or five weeks.’
