McLeish’s Belgium Break

Former Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish has been named KRC Genk`s new manager following a long spell out of the game.

He has signed a two year deal with the club and will be presented to the media on Monday. Genk have only recently sacked their previous manager Emilio Ferrera after he lost his opening game of the season.

McLeish has an impressive CV which includes a Carling Cup win, Scottish League cups and Scottish cups. He also won two league titles whilst in charge of Rangers. As Scotland manager he also managed to mastermind a 1-0 win over France in the Euro 2008 qualifications.

Genk have just three points from their opening four games and sit 13th in the Juplier Pro League. It would seem McLeish won`t have much time to make his mark at what could be seen as an impatient club.

Upon reaching a crossroads in his career, it is unlikely he has much of a choice, with his recent reputation in England taking a hit. But of course managing in Belgium is exactly what he wants, so he will probably say.
