Alex McLeish has fired a warning to all clubs at the bottom of the Premier League and that is that Birmingham are up for the fight when it comes to survival.

McLeish pointed out that he has the quality in his side that should pull them away from the drop zone even though they have recently suffered a case of “after the Lord Mayor`s show” with a league and a FA Cup defeat against West Brom and Bolton.

But they did battle well to earn a point at Goodison Park in the 1-1 draw with Everton recently, a good performance from Blues that will stand them in good stead for the game against Wigan at the DW Stadium this weekend.

McLeish told the Birmingham Mail: ‘We had the disappointment of going out of the FA Cup, but the performance of those players has to be admired.

‘We all know we had a few problems selection-wise, but the guys out there did themselves, the club and the supporters proud.

‘This group in the dressing room – the whole squad – have proven that they can live with any club in this Premier League. And they have won a major trophy.

‘The evidence is there of their quality and also their resilience”.

McLeish looked at the table realistically and knows that all the games between now and the end of the season are not going to be easy with teams near the top fighting for Europe places and teams at the bottom battling to stay in the league.

But he does point out that his team`s attitude towards the battle is a good one.

He went on: ‘Of course our position in the table is not what we want it to be. But now our focus is on the league and, no question, we’re ready.

‘They’re all big games we’ve got coming up now. There are no guarantees. But we have got a great attitude, good experience and will look to try and get up that league.’
