Alex McLeish watched his side go down 1-0 at home to Real Mallorca on Saturday, but despite the lack of goals for the Blues, he still took some positives from the game.

Birmingham created chances, but could not put any of them away.

‘With pre-season games, you can tell from the fans in terms of the atmosphere, they are looking for us to really entertain them and I think there were one or two things that were pretty bright today,’ said McLeish to the club`s official site.

‘I was pleased with the amount of chances we made in the second half against a team who had a good season in La Liga last year.

‘Enric Valles, when he came on, put in a couple of great crosses but there were no takers. It didn’t fall right for Kevin Phillips, the wee predator, at the time.

‘So it was good to get behind them and get some dangerous balls across the face of the goal, which is a carbon copy of the goal that lost us the game.

‘We got over-exposed on the wide area and they overloaded it, the midfielders maybe didn’t react to the ball across the face of the goal and the guy’s got into the space between the defenders and midfielders.

‘But it was a good work-out overall for a lot of players”.
