McLeish looking to nab Gijon midfielder?

Blues manager Alex McLeish is hopeful that he can get the funds to sign Sporting Gijon midfielder Michel after watching the 23-year-old in action, according to reports.

It is believed that McLeish went off to Spain at the weekend to take a good look at the player who played a big part in helping Gijon to victory in a pre-season tournament.

Blues have already spent £18million so far this summer but the gaffer is hoping that a little more cash can be released by owner David Sullivan enabling McLeish to sign the £3 million rated midfielder.

McLeish’s assistant, Andy Watson says that the boss is highly impressed with the player and is hoping to get a bid in.

‘The next stage is for us to say we believe he is a really good player to the people that matter at the club,’ said Watson.

‘Alex has to see if we can persuade the board to do something.’
