As we approach game number 14 under Gianfranco Zola’s watch, Blues are desperately looking for win number two. While it’d be wise to look over our shoulders and proceed into the run-in with caution, we can be thankful for the 10 wins Blues have picked up between August and today.

QPR come into the game struggling for form and sitting nervously just above the relegation zone. There’s not many games Blues fans have expected to win recently, but this afternoons clash at St. Andrews will be a hotbed of expectation.

The Fulham success has long since passed, two back-to-back away reversals have travelled under the bridge, now Blues must get a grip on their situation. At the moment, Zola’s men aren’t in grave danger of dropping to League One but the longer this torrid form continues, the more they could be sucked in.

The Preston defeat on Tuesday night taught us that, perhaps, Blues are better off playing three at the back. The second half performance was much improved on the previous 45 minutes as the team played with ebb and flow, looking natural. Then of course came the ever predictable sucker punch – one meaningful attack, our defence crumbled. That has to change. And quickly.

For what it’s worth, I can see Blues winning today but on the flip side, I can’t see us building a run of games to push us up the Championship table. A few minor tweaks, a couple of pieces of luck here and there, a coating of paint scraped off the woodwork and it could have been so different. But we can’t keep making excuses.

Let’s just grin and bear it. Let’s not take a leaf out of Witton Village’s book and get the bedsheets out. Let’s back the team and the manager and hope for the best.

As always, Keep Right On!
