This evenings visit of Brighton and Hove Albion signifies the start of a new dawn for Birmingham City. That’s the club words, not mine.

Yet we must all embrace the new manager, Gianfranco Zola, and give him the best possible chance to succeed at Blues. After all, that is what we all want, a successful team.

It remains to be seen whether Zola can bring success to St. Andrews, or even better the job done by his predecessor, Gary Rowett. But he must be given the time to try. Today’s game probably won’t be a whole lot different in terms of style of play or team selection – Zola simply cannot be judged until he’s had the time to put his stamp on the club. One training session and one game doesn’t reflect a managers performance.

The Blues Trust have confirmed their intentions of paying tribute to Rowett today by way of a ‘Thank you Gary Rowett’ poster which they’re urging fans to hold up for the opening two minutes of the game – representing Rowett’s two year tenure. While I support that, it’s important to support the team and the new manager thereafter.

Brighton arrive at St. Andrews bang in form and flying high in second place. Chris Hughton has them well drilled and they are a threat when attacking. It’ll be a very, very tough game.

Come on Blues.
