Lee Clark has shed some light on the inclusion of young Josh Martin in the preliminary 19 man squad for today’s game against Leeds United.

The 15 year old is still at school, but he is to be put in and around the first team in order to prepare him for when his chance eventually comes.

Lee Clark has made it clear that he will be given his chance some time this season, meaning he could break Trevor Francis’ youngest appearance record.

Clark to BCFC.com ‘Whether he gets a place on the bench or is involved tomorrow I don’t know. But he needs to start learning and gaining the experience of being part of the first team because it’s not too far away.’

Martin is an unknown to the fans, having only recently featured in the U21s and having just finishing he debut season in the U18s.

The youngster has played for the club since he was able to feature for the U9s side and he could be set to have a good future for his boyhood club.

‘The big thing for me is that he and his family are huge Bluenoses, so this will be an unbelievable opportunity for him.

It also gives me the chance to go to the other young players around the football club to tell them that I’m a manager who believes in the academy and local players. And it backs up what I`ve said all along that the age on their birth certificate doesn’t bother me.’

Martin may not even be on the bench after all of the media attention the past few days, but there is certainly a signal intent laid down for this boy.
