Make Or Break Season

Steve Bruce has labelled next season ‘a make or break season’ for David Dunn.

The midfielder has been undergoing a personal training regime all summer in an effort to stop the cycle of continual niggling injuries that have stopped him from really making a name for himself at St Andrews.

A spinal operation seems so far to have cured him of the persistent hamstring problems he’s suffered, and hopefully next season he’ll be able to stay fit enough and really help our chances of promotion.

Speaking to the press, Steve Bruce said:

‘He’s had a summer of conditioning. He’s been doing all sorts. There’s nothing specifically wrong with him. If you’ve got a broken leg, you mend it, it’s fixed, you’re over it. Dunny is more complicated than that, unfortunately.

‘He’s got a crossroads in his career. He knows that if he doesn’t start playing, he will have to bear the consequences.’

More sad news has hit the club, as it has been announced that experienced midfielder, Muzzy Izzet’s career is most definitely in doubt.

It’s no secret that the player has seriously been considering retirement due to a persistent knee injury.

‘There are considerations with Muzzy. He’s come to the point where his knee is very, very painful and he can’t fulfil what he wants to do,’said Bruce.

The 31 year old player is reportedly on £32000 a week, and the News of the World have reported that Blues could be planning to pay him off with a £750,000 golden handshake.

Izzet’s agent, Jonathan Barnett is quoted as saying:

‘Muzzy’s career could be over.’

And the report also states that a City insider commented:

‘The reports all agree Muzzy can’t carry on so it’s a case of agreeing an amicable settlement.’

This is bad news for Blues, ideally we could’ve done with Dunn and Izzet in the centre of the park to both score and create as we aim to bounce straight back. With Izzet unlikely to kick a ball again going off the reports, you can but hope Dunn has been able to free himself from injury to take on the responsibility.

As a side point, not being cruel but if Izzet or other players are incapable of keeping to their contract through injury, why does it always fall on the club to still honour the contract?
