The Scottish Sun are reporting that Greg Stewart’s proposed loan move to newly promoted Scottish Premiership side St Mirren is being held up because of the player’s wages.
Saints boss Alan Stubbs wants to bring in the 28-year-old on a temporary basis, but the forward’s salary is proving a “major stumbling block.”
Stewart returned to St Andrew’s this summer after a season-long loan spell at Aberdeen last campaign. He may have been hoping to be given a chance by Garry Monk, but he was sent to train with the Under 23s when he returned for pre-season.
He did impress during a friendly match by scoring a classy solo goal in a 2-1 win over Kidderminster last Saturday, but he looks destined to leave before the end of the transfer window.
The Scot’s contract only has a year left to run so if he does leave on loan once again, he will be able to leave the club on a free transfer next summer.
