Maik Almost Sets Record

Maik Taylor was within a minute of rewriting the record books in the match against Wolves.

Had Blues not conceeded the last minute equiliser Maik would’ve kept a successive sixth straight league clean sheet, which would’ve equalled a record set way back in 1921.

Had the equiliser also not gone in, in the forthcoming match against Burnley he would’ve been well placed to equal the overall club record of seven consequtive clean sheets set in 1994, which is still held by former favourite Ian Bennett.

Speaking to the local press, Taylor said:

‘We’ve been on a great run and we can’t be too disheartened.

‘They had a lot more of the ball in the second half than in the first half so we need to look at that and maybe need to play a bit higher up the pitch and get closer to people.

‘We let them back in the game without them really creating a chance until right at the death, unfortunately.

‘At 1-0 there is always a chance for the opposing team. If you get the second goal, they then have to come out and try and get back in the game and that leaves the door open for a couple more.

‘The strikers got into the good positions and did that brilliantly, on another day we could perhaps have had five or six goals.

‘I couldn’t see if it was a foul but he has gone down and everyone has stopped. Bothroyd has turned and run at us and we have stood still.

‘I thought the ref had blown his whistle and I hadn’t heard it but unfortunately they got the corner and we’ve been punished. They will be pleased to come away with a point, we were a bit deflated.

‘We’ve just got to put this behind us now and go on another winning run.’
