If you ask me, the sale of Demarai Gray to Leicester City was a decent piece of business for both sides. The Foxes gain a player who has undoubted potential for a good price. Whereas Blues generate some much needed funds by offloading a player for whom they have more than adequate cover.

Gary Rowett isn`t short of options in wide areas. Viv Solomon-Otabor is raw but an exciting prospect, similar to Gray in many ways. David Cotterill (when fit) is an established wide player with experience. But in Jacques Maghoma, Rowett has one of the form players in the Championship.

When Maghoma signed from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer, it was hardly a marquee signing. Initial thoughts were that Maghoma would provide back-up for Gray and Cotterill. But football moves in peculiar ways and it could be argued that the Congo international is now one of the key components of the team.

Sheffield Wednesday fans commented that Maghoma was lazy and didn`t take to his defensive duties. This season, I have seen the opposite.

The 28 year-old, who played under Rowett at Burton Albion, has been described as ‘tremendously talented` by his manager. His goal against MK Dons oozed class and demonstrated a player in a confident mood.

Gray is a loss in the sense of what he potentially could be. But Maghoma is statistically Blues` most productive wide player (with Gray the least) and based on his recent performances, it`s easy to see why clubs have been sniffing around.

But with a couple of shrewd additions in the transfer window, the squad will be improved, not weakened, after Dimmy`s exit.
