Birmingham City have announced the signing of former Aston Villa and Leyton Orient defender Shane Lowry.

Releasing the news via the official club website and social media channels, the club have confirmed that Lowry has signed a deal until the end of the season.

The defender, who is predominantly a centre back, played once for Blues during preseason. During his start against Kidderminster Harriers, Lowry scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

Manager Gary Rowett has consistently outlined his desire to bring in a defender to cover Jonathan Spector and Michael Morrison should either of them get injured and it looks like Lowry is the man he has chosen.

There had been no official word on where the club were at with Lowry but as of today, it looks like the former Millwall player will be on Blues books.

Blues fans, what do you make of the signing of Shane Lowry? Do you think he has been brought in as the fourth choice centre back? Or do you think he will go straight into the starting XI? Let us know in the comment section down below!
