Jesse Lingard enjoyed his first game for Birmingham City so much that he is hoping to stay at St Andrews for the remainder of the season if United will let him.

The England U21 international hit all four of Blues goals in the demolition of Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, lifting himself to hero status at St Andrews.

The striker has originally joined the club on a one month spell and there is not much doubt that manager Lee Clark would like to extend the deal.

Lingard said to reporters: ‘It’s a dream come true. To get four goals and three points on my debut is massive.

‘I had a lot of pressure on my shoulders but as soon as the first goal went in I got more confident.

‘You can’t beat first-team football, so hopefully they will let me stay for the season.’
