It’s nearly here folks. Just one more sleep and football will be back.
Pitcher Early Wynn once said of opening day:
“An opener is not like any other game… You have that anxiety to get off to a good start, for yourself and for the team. You know that when you win the first one, you can’t lose ’em all.”
Now whilst that’s a baseball expression, the same certainly applies to the opening day of the football season. It’s the start of a new era for a lot of teams, with new managers and new players trotting out in front of their fans for the first time knowing that getting that first win under your belt is crucial as you start the new campaign.
Trying to get in on the excitement ahead of the new season, Birmingham’s social media team have released a video of goals from opening games in the past and it has brought back some memories for Blues fans everywhere. One goal in particular though was deemed so special that the club gave it its own tweet.
Olivier Kapo’s rocket of a goal against Chelsea at the start of the 2007/08 season has obviously stayed in the minds of supporters, even if that season, and that game, was one to forget. Looks as if some people did choose to forget.
I used to love Oliver Kapo ????⚪????⚪

When going 1-0 up away from home to a top 4 side was massive ????

Didn’t we lose 3-2 in the end?

Was at this game, Forsell with the other but lost 3-2. Think Doyle had a bit of a mare too.

And as is tradition, there was one fan who’d rather the club be tweeting about new players coming in, rather than banging on about something that happened 12 years ago.
