Birmingham boss Lee Clark admitted that the way Bournemouth got their opening goal knocked his side off their stride on Saturday and they never recovered from the blow.

The scoring was opened on 14 minutes through Matt Ritchie, at the time Jordon Ibe was off the field replacing a damaged boot, he was not allowed straight back onto the field and Bournemouth went one up.

Lewis Grabban added a second seven minutes later and was on hand to convert a penalty just before the half hour to make it 3-0 and leave Blues shell shocked.

Ian Harte notched a fourth seven minutes into the second half with a curling left footed shot into the roof of the net.

Birmingham’s Federico Macheda staged a fightback, he was first on the mark in the 57th minute and the second came after 72 minutes, but it was not enough and Birmingham stretched their winless run at home to 15 games.

Clark Said: ‘We lost our shape and they picked us off. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing with that goal. I was up in the stands sitting comfortably and I thought we had started really well.

‘Then the lad leaves the pitch and it takes a long time to get him back on. By the time we do we are a goal down and I couldn’t comprehend what I was seeing.

Blues next three games, against Doncaster, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest are all away from home.
