In the final part of this trio of articles, I thought it would be good to have a look at four players from the third tier of English football who I think can make a difference to the Blues squad next season.

Now, I know what you League Two fans are thinking, why have you missed our league out? The reason I have done that is because I am unsure as to whether there would be four players who I think can make the step up into the Blues set-up.

It was quite tough to search through who was out of contract at the end of this season in League One but when I finally found a list of freebies, I managed to pick out four players who I think could make the difference to Gary Rowett’s team next season.

1. MARVIN SORDELL – COLCHESTER UNITED.

The 25-year-old has had a fractured season with the U’s, but in his 29 appearances in all competitions, the former Burnley striker has scored six goals and although that doesn’t sound like many, I think he could be a good addition for us.

He is still at a fairly young age and I think Rowett would be able to mould him into a very good Championship striker. As he is on a free, I personally think that he could be worth a gamble and after watching some of his games on television, he could play the role that Clayton Donaldson is playing at the moment.

2. ED UPSON – MILLWALL.

The former Ipswich Town trainee has played a pivotal part in getting the Lions into the League One play-offs, they are currently fourth, and I think he could be a good player for us to go after.

At the age of 26, Upson has fantastic potential and I believe that if Rowett took a chance on him then he would strive to repay the faith that he has shown in him.

Personally, I think if Blues moved for Upson, he could turn out like Stephen Gleeson. Somebody who takes 12 months to settle into the league but someone who can create chances and score goals for us throughout the season.

3. JOSE BAXTER – SHEFFIELD UNITED.

Like Sordell, Baxter has had a very up and down season with United and there has been a lot of attention on him after he moved round a few clubs since leaving Everton in 2012, but I think he could be the number ten that we are missing.

The 24-year-old has scored seven goals in 28 appearances this season in league and cup and considering that he has been in and out of the team every other week, I think that is a pretty good return.

The chances that he creates for his team mates and the goals that he scores when he gets a good run in the team could mean that he is the player from League One that could turn the Blues team around.

4. ROMAINE SAWYERS – WALSALL.

Another youngster from League One who I think could be an absolute steal this summer for the pure fact that they are on a free is Sawyers.

He has really progressed over the past two years with the Saddlers and I think he ready to make the step up into the Championship and personally I would like to see Rowett make a move for him.

With seven goals in 54 appearances, Sawyers does have space to improve but I think if he made the move into the Championship then he would progress really quickly, especially if he was playing on a regular basis.

Blues fans, would you like to see Gary Rowett drop down a league to pick up some freebies this summer? Let us know in the comment section down below!
