Luke Turner picks out a key man for the trip to Wigan tomorrow…

Blues head to the DW Stadium tomorrow to face Wigan Athletic on the back of their first win of the season, a 2-1 victory over Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday.

Gary Rowett and his side will be looking to make it two wins on the spin but know it won’t be easy against a Wigan side that just brushed past Blackburn, winning 3-0.

If Blues are going to beat Gary Caldwell`s side then I think that Stephen Gleeson will be key to it.

Now, I don’t think he’s been at the top of his game for a good few months now but he’s showing signs of regaining his form that is so crucial in our team.

He is such an important cog in that midfield machine at Blues and he is very much an underrated player for us.

The way he keeps us ticking and keeps the ball moving along is hugely important for us, especially when we are playing away from home.

To have someone who can be so calm in the middle and take a bit of the pressure off his team mates is something that is very undervalued.

There have been rumours that Sheffield Wednesday and Reading have been sniffing around Gleeson and I can understand why.

When he isn’t on his game, then it’s likely that Blues won’t function as well. Tomorrow night will be no different.

If Blues can gain a foothold in the game then the Irishman will start to dictate the play and, as we saw on Saturday, he has the vision to pick out killer passes.

Gleeson also has an eye for goal and it would be a great time for him to open his account for the season tomorrow night at the DW.
