Luke Turner picks out a key player for Saturday’s game…

Blues return to St Andrews on Saturday evening as they face Sheffield Wednesday in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

The last time The Owls last faced us, two Gary Hooper goals in as many minutes were enough to win the game for them after Blues had lead through Clayton Donaldson.

Those two goals were really a sucker punch and, in my opinion, it was after that game where Blues began to tail off.

If we are to get the better of Carlos Carvalhal`s side this time around then I believe that Ryan Shotton will be key to it.

Alongside Michael Morrison, Shotton has been a rock at the back for us since he first moved to centre back for us and then signed permanently in the summer.

His aerial ability, timing of challenges and sheer dominance against forwards is really making him a crucial player for Blues and one that we can rely on.

Wednesday have an array of attacking talent that all have different abilities. Fletcher and Nuhiu both provide physical and aerial presence whilst Hooper and Forestieri have great movement and technical ability.

I feel that Shotton can match them in the air and also on the deck. His pace can also get him out of sticky situations and allow him to make well-timed challenges.

It could be a real battle for Shotton and Morrison against their forwards but I really do think that they can nullify their threat and keep it to a minimum.

I am expecting another solid performance from Ryan Shotton as he continues to make his transfer fee of £300,000 look like a real steal. A dominant performance from him could set Blues on their way to a positive result.
