Key player Vs. Preston

Birmingham City are on the road again tomorrow night as they travel to Preston, looking to bounce back from Friday’s 3-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Gianfranco Zola will be pleased with how his side played for the majority of the game at Hillsborough and a three goal score line clearly flattered the hosts.

Blues were excellent, particularly in the second half and it was just a case of poor defending and a lack of ruthless finishing in the opposition box that let them down.

If we are to pick up three points tomorrow evening, then I think that the spark and creativity of Kerim Frei will be key to it.

David Davis` suspension means that Zola will be forced into at least one change and I think that Frei should be the man to come in and hopefully have an impact.

Whether he plays on the wing or in that number 10 role, he is the sort of player that can create things for Blues and looking to get his side on the attack as quickly as possible.

The team is seriously lacking in goals at the moment but there are certainly players there who, when given the chance, can be ruthless in front of goal- Frei is one of those.

If he can work himself a yard of space and get in the Preston penalty area then he must just chance his luck and have a dig.

Far too often in recent games we have been messing around with the ball on the edge of the penalty area and, in the end, not actually had a shot at goal.

If Frei can be direct and worry the Preston defence right from the get-go, then it could give Blues a lift as the game goes on.

The team will know that they will have to start a lot better than they did against Wednesday as, ultimately, our slow start got punished.

Simon Grayson`s side are a tough side to beat but with I do believe that Frei`s ability could go a long way to helping Blues take something away from the game at Deepdale.

If he can find that space in between the lines, then he could be a real menace and it’s crucial that we punish the opposition whilst we’re on top.

There’s only so long Blues can continue on this run of just one win under Zola and a positive result tomorrow would hopefully allow us to kick on and progress back up the table.
