Luke Turner picks a key player for tomorrow’s game…

Blues travel to league leaders Newcastle United tomorrow looking to bounce back from last weeks 3-0 defeat at the hands of Barnsley.

It will no doubt be one of, if not, the toughest games of the season so each and every player will need to be on their game.

If Blues are to take anything away from the game then I think that Ryan Shotton will play a key part in it.

He’s been immense for us so far this season and you could argue that he is our player of the season to date.

With the attacking talent Newcastle have on display, you expect them to have lots of possession and create plenty of chances.

Shotton, alongside Michael Morrison, will have a tough job on his hands looking after the likes of Championship top scorer Dwight Gayle and Serbia international Aleksander Mitrovic.

If you give either of them an inch of space then they will punish you there and then. Shotton will have to be clever with the way he deals with the Newcastle front men but he is certainly good enough to keep their impact to a minimum.

Blues` best opportunities may come from set pieces and Shotton could become important in those scenarios as well.

He is a big threat coming up from the back and has already grabbed a couple of goals this season, most recently the winner at Brentford.

If he leads from the back by example and performs how he has done for most of the season then that will give Blues the perfect leap pad to build from.
