Key player Vs. Burton

Apart from one moment of individual brilliance from Kerim Frei, I saw nothing on Friday at Rotherham that would suggest that Blues will get themselves out of this mess.

A draw against a team that had already been relegated and had lost 10 on the bounce was the breaking point. Gianfranco Zola should’ve left the club on Friday, there’s no doubt about that. The performance was dire.

The fact of the matter is, despite chants from the Blues fans for Zola to go, he is still here and leading us into perhaps our biggest game since that day at Bolton in 2014.

That’s how big tomorrow’s fixture against Burton Albion is.

I’m not picking an individual key player for this game because as we saw on Friday, that magical free kick from Frei wasn’t enough to bring all three points back to Birmingham.

This is the time for the players to step up as a collective.

They can’t hide away from it, the pressure on this game now is absolutely huge. How it’s got to this position I don’t know, but Blues are four points above the relegation zone and three points is the minimum I expect.

It will be an extremely tough game with Burton fighting for their lives as well but Blues need to play as a team, as a unit and really turn up for this game.

Zola would be a fool to pick the same team that started on Friday. Blues need players that can create, increase the tempo of the game and break down what is likely to be a resilient Burton back line.

It’s difficult to stomach what’s going on at our club at the moment but we have to stick with the players and I know that the Blues fans will do just that.

They need our support more than anything tomorrow. Forget the board, forget Zola, let`s give those players our backing when they need it most.

I expect to see so much more than what we were given on Friday and everything has to be left out on that pitch. As a team, we have got to perform.

This is the time to step up and this is the time to drag ourselves away from this mess. With the games we have remaining, this is the one we have to look at and take maximum points from.

Three points, that is what we require. Don’t let us down.
