Key player Vs. Brighton

Following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Ipswich, Blues are back on the road tomorrow as they travel to play second placed Brighton.

On paper, you would predict a straight forward win for Chris Hughton`s side but maybe Blues could spring a surprise. Who knows?

If Gianfranco Zola`s side are to come away with anything from the game then it will be a bonus and I’m looking towards Ryan Shotton as being the key player for us.

He’s definitely played his part in Blues becoming a lot tougher to beat in recent weeks and his leadership from the back is something that can boost us from now until the end of the season.

He seems to have come through the initial sticky patch he had midway through the season and he looks to be back to his old self again, especially since we’ve gone more defensive with the five at the back system.

When asked to defend, Shotton will do just that. It will be no easy task coming up against the likes of Glenn Murray but by setting up with a solid back five, Blues and Shotton will be a lot harder to break down.

For me, tomorrow’s game has to be a case of Blues holding their own for as long as they can and then potentially grabbing something either on the break or from a set piece.

Shotton could also have a part to play in an attacking sense for Blues with his height and aerial ability from corners and free kicks.

We may only get one or two really good opportunities to put pressure on the Brighton defence so when we get the chance, it needs to be taken with open arms.

With wins hard to come by at the moment, it is a huge ask for Blues to go to the AMEX and take all three points. However, if we stay focused and resolute, we may just come out of the game with something positive.
