Birmingham City head to Championship strugglers Blackburn Rovers tomorrow with Gianfranco Zola still looking for his first win as Blues boss.

If he is to get those three points tomorrow, then I think that Craig Gardner is going to be key to it.

He made his second Blues debut last Saturday against Nottingham Forest where he was given just over 35 minutes to try and help Blues find a winner.

He immediately looked to get on the ball and make things happen for Blues and I think we can all see that he is going to become a key player for us due to his quality and experience.

At Ewood Park tomorrow, I do think that Zola will start Gardner and he needs to be the man to drive Blues forward and keep the ball moving quickly.

Our passing has been far too slow in recent weeks but Gardner will look to get the ball out of his feet straight away and move it on in an attacking direction.

Blues are only going to progress with Zola`s style if we have players that are brave on the ball and show attacking intent rather than just tapping it around needlessly.

Gardner is one of those players and it’s not just his quality on the ball that is going to be important. He is also a leader and we really did need someone else that would bark orders and rally the troops.

Tomorrow is a huge game for Blues and pretty much a must win. The players need to be up for the game and also confident.

The presence of Gardner in midfield will give a big boost to those around him and hopefully he can be the driving force that will lead us to the three points.
