New signing Stephen Kelly is keen to impress and help Blues reach their goal of bouncing straight back up.

The 22 year old passed his medical with flying colours and put pen to paper on a 3 year deal following his initial £750,000 move from Spurs. That figure could rise to £1.25 million depending on his success at St Andrews.

Although Kelly prefers the right back berth, his versatility means he can play in any position along the back four and speaking on the official site following his move he’s certainly saying all the right things.

‘I have got pace and I try and overlap as much as I can without neglecting my defensive duties.

‘But getting forward and joining in the attack is a big part of my game and I like to be able to do that.

‘With Jermaine Pennant playing in front of me, he is a quick lad and he is going to skin people as well.

‘So I am looking forward to linking up with him and I know there are a lot of other skilful players in the team.

‘I was at Tottenham from the age of 16 and played in over 40 games but things didn’t work out the way I wanted.

‘It was time for me to move on and this is a great opportunity for me to come and play and do well.

‘It is tough to leave a club when you have been there for so long and all your mates are there.

‘But you have to do what’s best for you.

‘Everybody knows that this club wants to be back in the Premiership and hopefully I can help them achieve that aim.’

Kelly has already made his full international debut for the Republic of Ireland, and he hopes along with success at Blues that he’ll get the chance for success on the international stage.

‘It was great to make my debut for Ireland and I am going to need to be playing first team football to continue that run.

‘So hopefully coming here will help me get games under my belt and enhance my chances at international level.’
