Keep Faith With Him – 57% Of Birmingham Fans Polled Are Backing Monk’s Decision On 22 Year Old

|

Garry Monk praised Connal Trueman after the club’s 1-1 friendly draw against Brighton on Saturday.

The 22-year-old has not played a senior game for the club but looks destined to head into the season as the club’s first choice goalkeeper. The manager believes Connal is a talented goalkeeper:

“We rate Connal very highly. He’s got huge potential, he’s a young keeper. Throughout pre-season, he’s acquitted himself fantastically.”

I asked fans whether you are happy for Trueman to start the campaign as number one, and the majority have backed Monk’s decision to keep faith with the player:

There’s no doubt that our no.39 will undergo a baptism of fire. He will head out in front of 25,000+ fans against Norwich on Saturday week. His only previous experience of first-team football came in the National League with Solihull Moors at the start of last season.

Hopefully, he is up to the task. Monk is very reluctant to reverse his decision on transfer listing David Stockdale and Tomasz Kuszczak so it seems Trueman could hold on to the gloves for the foreseeable future.
