The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that John McGinn has set his sights on joining Celtic over a move to the Championship.

On his Twitter account (via Football League World), the reporter confirmed that both us and Derby were in for the 23-year-old, but the player indicated that he was only interested in a switch to the Scottish champions:

“Derby and Birmingham were keen … but message came back that he would head for Celtic.”

Considering our transfer situation, it isn’t much of a setback. Although, with Celtic haggling over McGinn’s fee and bidding just £2m, there’s no doubt that we could have outbid the SPFL side if the midfielder was more amenable to a move.

As things stand though, we won’t be bringing in anybody. After the friendly against Brighton on Saturday, Garry Monk said that both he and the club were waiting for some clarity on the situation.

That kind of suggests to me that the EFL are in the process of making a decision over our finances. Whether it comes too late for this transfer window, we will have to wait and see.

  • T.T.A. must go the way of the football rules and keep avoiding chaos for blues to go all the way to the top ….We have a good young manager in Gary Monk that can take us all the way ..but all must be as one ..in harmony .. a lot of what’s gone off is not all the clubs fault ..we have been dealt a bad hand by people employed …but we have to appease the E.F.L. to carry on to reach our goal ..this F.F.P. needs to be cleared for the fans and managerial team to keep faith ..Lets give this this team another player or two so we can go for it …COME ON BLUES ….
