Cameron Jerome has praised the attitude and workrate of the defence following our 2-0 win at QPR.

‘To be fair, we were under the cosh a bit when we went down to 10 men but we weathered the storm.

‘The defence did brilliantly, they coped with the aerial threat. QPR kept on pumping the long balls in, but we dealt with them.

‘DJ Campbell was very unlucky, he had a shot that hit the inside of the post and came back out.

‘We had a few other half-chances and opportunities but didn’t stick them away.

‘When we went down to 10 men, it was always going to be difficult for us. They were piling a few forward so the boys deserve a pat on the back for showing tremendous team spirit.’

Speaking on his own contribution to the game, his spectacular debut goal he said:

‘I thought if the defender let it bounce I had half a chance of getting my body in.

‘That’s what I did. I saw the ‘keeper coming, he was my side of the goal, I knew the far side was empty so I tried to knock it over him. As soon as I hit it, I knew it was in. I was delighted to get off the mark.’
