It looks like the wait is almost over with just about every paper and website reporting that Chris Hughton is about to be named as the new boss at Birmingham City.

This news will please most fans who have backed Hughton as the next man since McLeish slithered off to Aston Villa.

Reports say that the ex-Newcastle boss is all but there, its just a case of crossing the t`s and dotting the i`s and Blues will have a manager who knows how to get a side playing exciting football and score goals, not to mention having the experience of getting into and managing in, the Premier League.

Hughton reportedly impressed acting Blues chairman Peter Pannu during interviews, and City owner Carson Yeung is anticipated to sanction Hughton`s arrival. This will be Yeung`s first managerial appointment since taking control of Blues early last year, and Hughton will face the tough task of picking up the pieces at St. Andrews.

Yeung is looking for Blues to regain their Premier League status at the first attempt, that is something that Hughton has done before in style and it led to him moving up from caretaker manager to take the job on a full time basis while he was doing it.

And those of you with a good memory will remember that Hughton led Newcastle to a 6-0 hammering of Villa to celebrate their return to the top flight.

It would be nice to see that happen again.
