Is Thomas Needed?

With the continous speculation of the departures of both Gray and Donaldson, my attention turned to that of Thomas.

In my opinion, two strikers are the best option which is due to the fact that they can press high together and force mistakes in the oppositions defence third.

However, from an attacking point of view, the pair need to be complimentary. I believe this to be one physical prescence who is responsible for winning headers and flicking the ball on. The other is pacy and can take advantage of such knock ons. It goes without saying, they both have to be clinical.

In terms of Donaldson and Thomas working together, it is very unrealistic to expect them to work well. They are both too similar and due to this, Rowett has opted to play just one up front; Donaldson.

So if Donaldson was to leave, would Thomas be an ideal replacement? I believe he would be, but I’d still like to see a pacy attacker brought in. But I believe that Thomas isn’t good enough to be on his own up front, as Donaldson is. That is the only major problem if Donaldson leaves and we do not get an extra forward.

With pre-season just days away, I am concerned that we haven’t found a goalkeeper, striker or even any midfielders. It is crucial that new players inbed themselves and get fitness in before the season starts.
