On Saturday afternoon, Birmingham City suffered their heaviest defeat at home this season as Barnsley came to St.Andrew’s and walked away with a 3-0 win.

The main focal point to the Tykes success in B9 was their main striker Sam Winnall.

Prior to the game, Blues boss Gary Rowett revealed that the club knew all about the former Wolverhampton Wanderers trainee and that got me thinking, is he plotting a move for him in January.

It is no secret that Blues could do with another quality striker in their ranks, someone who can finish off the chances unlike Clayton Donaldson who only seems to be able to find the back of the net from the penalty spot.

The 25-year-old striker has enjoyed a successful start to the season, scoring seven goals, including two against Blues on Saturday, in 16 appearances and if he continues his rich vein of form over the Christmas period then I am sure there will be a few Championship sides looking at Winnall.

Although I am not sure how much the forward would cost, I would have no hesitation in pushing Rowett to spend a few million on either Winnall or at least another top quality striker.

Blues really need to start putting their chances away and althogh Donaldson and Jutkiewicz have their uses, at the moment they aren’t finding the back of the net as much as we need them to.

I know it is a big ask for a striker to consistently find the back of the net every game or every other game but if Blues want to stay in and around the play-offs, maybe forking out on a striker (poacher) wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

Blues fans, what did you make of Sam Winnall’s performance at the weekend? Is he someone who would fit into our system? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
