On Monday evening, Birmingham City announced that they had signed 20-year-old forward Che Adams on a three-year deal from League One side Sheffield United.

The fee, although undisclosed, is believed to be in the region of £2 million, and with United boss Chris Wilder hinting that they have a good deal in place if Adams reaches his full potential, I believe that there is a sell-on clause in the contract as well.

However, besides welcoming a very good, young talent to the squad, the question on every Blues fans tongue is, will Adams be the answer to Blues’ goal scoring problems?

For me, the answer to that question is that he has the potential to ease it, but I don’t think he is entirely the answer to our problem in front of goal.

Although he is a high goal scorer for his age, with a big price tag on his head, fans will be expecting him to hit the ground running and if he doesn’t some may get on his back and that will do nothing for his confidence.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder, who can also play as a striker, needs time to settle into his new surroundings but if any manager can bring the best out of a young talent it is Gary Rowett.

Blues identified Adams as their number one target in July and after seeing two bids knocked back for him, a third was finally accepted and now it will be interesting to see how the youngster adapts to life in the second tier of English football.

Personally, I think we have got an absolute bargain but we have to be careful with him. We can’t put too much pressure on him and expect him to get 25 goals this season. We need to give the lad a bit of time and slowly but surely, I believe he will come good for Blues and who knows, he might provide us with those extra 10-12 goals that Rowett talked about last season.

With Adams and fellow youngster Jack Storer both liking to play off the central striker, it will be very interesting to see how Rowett fits everybody into a game. It would be very intriguing to see Clayton Donaldson, Diego Fabbrini, Storer and Adams on the pitch at the same time because then I think we would be a huge force going forward.

Unfortunately for Blues fans, they will have to wait to see Adams make his home debut as he isn’t available for selection against Oxford United but his bow at St.Andrews will come against local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.
