The international break is almost over which means domestic football returns this weekend. Ipswich Town are the next team to stand between Blues and their latest bid for survival.

The Tractor Boys are safely tucked away in mid-table but have won just two of their last eight games which has increased the pressure on Mick McCarthy. After a strong start to the season, a play-off place was being talked about. Since then, Ipswich have tailed off significantly.

A mid-table finish should be classed as a decent season for Ipswich. In the Championship, only Burton Albion and Bolton are working with smaller budgets. Yet the main issues many of the Portman Road faithful have with McCarthy is the style of football, which can be described as pragmatic and one dimensional, and his demeanour.

Following their late goal against arch rivals Norwich in February (which eventually ended 1-1) McCarthy was criticised for his over exuberant celebration. Replays on Sky Sports showed McCarthy gesturing towards the travelling Ipswich fans who had earlier mocked his style of football with chants of ‘Mick McCarthy, your football is s**t`.

The former Ireland and Wolves boss is only contracted until this summer and the club have today confirmed they will decide his future ‘in the next few weeks`. McCarthy hasn`t ruled out remaining at the club if a new deal is thrown his way.
