Following yesterday’s clash between Preston North End and Birmingham City, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Preston North End hosted Birmingham City at Deepdale on Saturday January 20, with both sides playing out a one all draw.

Preston opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Ben Davies, but Birmingham levelled via Sam Gallagher just after the hour mark in the match.

Preston slip to eleventh place in the Championship table and Birmingham remain in 23rd spot.

Teams:

Preston:

Maxwell, Clarke, Huntington, Davies (Earl 45), Cunningham, Gallagher, Johnson, Barkhuizen, Harrop, Robinson (Moult 69), Hugill (Browne 57).

Substitutes:

Rudd, Horgan, Welsh, Bodin.

Birmingham:

Stockdale, Colin, Roberts, Dean, Grounds, Ndoye, Kieftenbeld, Maghoma, Davis, Boga (Adams 86), Gallagher.

Substitutes:

Jutkiewicz, Bramall, Jenkinson, Jota, Morrison, Trueman.

Speaking to the BBC’s cameras a short time after match day referee Andy Davies blew the final whistle, Preston manager Alex Neil explained.

‘I thought individually and collectively that’s the poorest we’ve been since I’ve been at the club. So that’s really disappointing. We didn’t deserve anything from the game so the only bonus we can take is that we’ve got a point. I thought we were flowery and soft, they did the fundamentals very well but we were lacking that today. Performance-wise was really poor.’

Birmingham manager Steve Cotterill in his comparative interview explained.

‘We’ll be going home disappointed tonight because we think our performance merited the win today. We could have gone two goals up before they scored. We’ve been playing well for a little while now. This isn’t a coincidence – this is starting to be a good, consistent team.’
