Midfielder Olivier Kapo has stressed he has no intention of leaving Birmingham during the current transfer window – despite speculation he is set for a reunion with former boss Steve Bruce at Wigan.
The 27-year-old Frenchman moved to St Andrews from Juventus in the summer but, thanks in no small part to reports of Kapo’s closeness to Bruce and his assistant Eric Black, there have been whispers of a move away from Birmingham before the end of the month.
But Kapo has now said he is happy with boss Alex McLeish and he has no desire to move – and the most important thing for him is helping the team win the next game in the league so that the club can start climbing away from the Premier League’s danger-zone.
Kapo told the Birmingham Mail: “I am confident about our team. We have a good manager and staff, we have good players. I like the city, my family is happy, it’s good here. There are no problems. The most important thing for me is that we win games because now, the (league) situation isn’t the best.
“It’s good for me (the speculation) but I play for Birmingham. I have signed for three years and I like it here. What matters is our next game. Nothing else. I am looking forward to it and looking forward to helping the team. I don’t want to move, no.”
Kapo, who has nine caps for his country, also praised the “passionate” fans and, while admitting that the football is different here from where he had played before, said he liked the fact that the game never stops and is full of movement.
