Ian Bennett Joins Nottingham Forest

Former Birmingham Stopper Ian Bennett has brought his five year association with Huddersfield Town to an end after agreeing to join Nottingham Forest as a coach.

Bennett spent his five years at Huddersfield, firstly as a player and then when he moved into his coaching role, following his retirement from the game in 2014.

‘The five years I have spent at Huddersfield Town as a player, and more recently a coach, have been brilliant,’ Bennett told the club’s official website.

The now 43 year old, born in Worksop, played an impressive 287 league games for Birmingham city, with a further 16 FA Cup and 38 League Cup games.

He joined from Peterborough in December 1993 and served the club for a tremendous 12 years, a feat very rarely achieved at any level. His final games in the Premier League included a clean sheet against Aston Villa and Arsenal.

In recent years we have been devoid of such a constant goalkeeping figure, with Randolph the latest of first team keepers to depart. Are we likely to see such an ever-present between the posts again?
