“I want to build something”: Blues boss Aitor Karanka insists he won’t be rushed into signing forward this window

|

Quality over quantity.

That appeared to be the message that Blues boss Aitor Karanka wanted to send out in the aftermath of our 1-0 defeat to Cambridge United in the League Cup over the weekend.

Blues have a major problem on their hands when it comes to putting the ball in the back of the net, and with all due respect to Adan George, he’s not going to be the solution long-term.

Speaking after the defeat to Cambridge United (via Birmingham Live), Karanka was keen to stress that he isn’t going to be rushing into any deals for a front man just yet, and that the process to bring in a new man will take some time, because he doesn’t want the club to end up with any flops:

“I could say today we played with kids but I don’t like to, I don’t like excuses but obviously the more quality you have the better you can play.

It is easy to say but in the way we didn’t sign a keeper until last week, we are not signing another keeper yet and we haven’t signed another striker is because I want to build something and I don’t want to bring in one striker then in two weeks’ time think that we have made a mistake.”

How much will Blues spend in this window?

More than £15m

£15m or less

Whilst I can understand where Karanka is coming from in regards to wanting to get the deal right, we don’t want another Fran Villalba on our hands, there needs to be some element of ‘all-out assault’ when it comes to bringing in a new frontman to offer competition/relief for Lukas Jutkiewicz.

Because as this result shows, if we don’t have a forward who is capable of filling in when it comes to a League Two side, imagine what problems we’re going to face when we have to come up against Championship ones on a regular basis?

So Karanka wants quality – which of the signings so far fit that description – answer “None”! Unless Sanchez is a miracle man we have again saddled ourselves with mediocre – past their best players, unproven Spanish 2nd/3rd Div players and a crock (Leko). Unless our so-called stars Pederson, Colin, Sunjic and Bela pull their fingers out we are going to be an embarassment !
