New Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton has confirmed that his task for next season is just the same as Alex McLeish`s was and that`s to get Blues back up at first attempt.

Hughton was unveiled as the new man in charge after winning off competition to be McLeish`s successor who took the club down last term. Hughton wants it to be known that he will sweat blood to return Birmingham to the top flight.

He told Sky Sports News: ‘Yes, (my remit is to get the club promoted). We know it will be a tough task. I hope I can do it.

‘It’s a tough season, a very tough division. I feel you want to work at a club where you have a good chance of getting back where this club wants to be and
belongs. I feel I have that here.

‘The ultimate aim is to get back into the Premier League, and the job starts now.’

But, as expected, Hughton warned fans that players would be leaving the club, pointing towards the likes of Ben Foster and Scott Dann who are being chased after the club went down.

He added: ‘I have had very good meetings. I am aware that with relegation comes a financial side that has to be balanced.

‘We have had some very good players that have shown a desire they want to remain Premier League players.

‘These are the type of things I will be addressing over the next day or so.

‘We’ve got a lot of work to do. For me it is about a group of players showing a real desire to want to get back into the Premier League.’
