Hughton On Ipswich Victory

Chris Hughton saw his striker Nikola Zigic net the winning goal in the game against Ipswich Town last night, he was pleased with the result and the player.

The Serbian is now making a habit of late goals, not that it bothers Hughton, he just hopes the tall one will be still at St Andrews when the January transfer window closes.

‘The late, late show again,’ said Hughton.

‘If you score late in the game it certainly shows we’ve got enough character and resilience in the team that we want to protect this very good home record that we’ve got.’

Hughton added: ‘We didn’t play well, I think they defended very well and we had to as well on the counter-attack.

‘I think probably over the 90 minutes we edged it, and I would think their manager (Jewell) would have said certainly they deserved to get a draw, at least.

‘It wasn’t one of our better performances.’

And not too long ago it looked like Zigic would be leaving in January to inject some cash into the club and get him off the wage bill.

But now that he is finding the net again, Hughton is hoping that he will be staying.

Hughton added: ‘If he ends up staying past January then I’ll be delighted.’
