Former Blue Bryan Hughes has had his say on what needs to happen next at Blues, following the sacking of manager Lee Clark.

Hughes wants to see happy times return to St Andrews after explaining that the away from over the past few years hasn’t actually been bad at all.

He said that the sacking of Lee Clark had been coming and sympathised with Clark on many points. Those points included the budget, losing so many talent players and the hoodo that was the home form.

Whether it`s all the stuff off the field is affecting things on the pitch – the atmosphere, what goes through the players` minds – I am not sure. Last season Birmingham had a lot of loan players; were their hearts in it?

Hughes went on to predict a season of struggle for Birmingham, with a new manager needing to come in and influencing a drastic change in fortunes for Blues to do any better.

Unless the new manager can get things going straight away, bring a bit of a feelgood factor back, it will be tough again for Birmingham.

“At the moment it`s all doom and gloom.

“The position in the league, all the uncertainty off the field – no-one knows what`s happening, whether or when there will be a takeover – it doesn`t help.

The former versatile midfielder was speaking on birminghammail.co.uk, no one at the club is under the illusion that Birmingham are about to become a force within the league under a new manager. But what is hoped for is a clean break from what clearly wasn’t working.
