Former Birmingham striker Geoff Horsfield has joined League Two outfit Lincoln on a week-long trial.

Horsfield, now 35, was released by Sheffield United in the summer and has just been given the all clear after a testicular cancer scare.

And now he is looking for a new club after having loan spells of late with Leicester, Leeds and Scunthorpe.

After joining up with Peter Jackson`s squad on Monday, Horsfield said: ‘I’m going to train for the week, see what happens and then have a chat with Jacko.

‘To be honest I need a good two or three weeks (to get fit), I really do. I’ve got to get fit because this has come out of the blue. I haven’t done any training for nine weeks.’

He added: ‘I’ve known Jacko for years from our Halifax days. We’ve always got on well. When he got throat cancer, I gave him a ring to see how he was feeling and he did exactly the same with me when I was diagnosed with mine.’
