Hope and expectation for Blues as we eye Cardiff

|

This Saturday sees Birmingham City take in our away game at Cardiff.

A tough trip, like all the Championship matches are, and Cardiff will be a stern test no matter what their league position may be. Blues, however, appear to have a good relaxed way about them at the moment with possibly the younger element of the team playing with little fear. Good thing all round.

At the beginning of the season, we were all a little nervy as to how life without Garry Monk would be, myself included. As we now stand it can be said that this squad of players are blending in well and vitally important is the fact that the St Andrews faithful are accepting the way this squad is playing football with better possession.

Whatever happens this season in terms of play-offs or not, I for one, have so far enjoyed the less frantic way we are going about our business. We all needed a period of calm and it appears this season we are getting it.

Looking at the players, especially Bellingham, Bailey, Crowley and Sunjic I still feel pride in being a Bluenose.

These four, for me, epitomise the future for the club and set the pattern that I think Clotet and co are trying to mould. Youth and experience are what most clubs strive for and use it as a base for success.

Players like the Gardner’s, Davis etc have certainly given great service to us in recent seasons, enabling the club to escape the League One trapdoor, but this new season with much change – mainly in the philosophy of how we play from now on – does appear to end the ‘old hand’ approach.

One player, however, who deserves a comeback when fit again is Keifenbeld. It would be a pity if this thoroughbred of a blues player is discarded due to the new thinking. Hope and expectation is currently on a high at the moment and Cardiff is eagerly awaited by most of us with no doubt Bellingham and Bailey itching to get out there.

A little bit reminiscent of the early years when Francis and Burns wore their Blues shirts at tender ages. Fond memories of going to Leicester City and both secured goals totalling six. Youth at its best with the word fear not in their vocabulary.
