The EFL ruling last month stated that we could only sign an additional five players before August 31st. With four players having already been recruited, it means we have just one more space that can be filled.
With Cheikh N’Doye’s loan exit to Angers, a central midfielder would be my best guess and fans on Twitter agree that is the likeliest area that will be bolstered.
Here are some of the names that fans have been suggesting:
Wes Hoolihan (however you spell it) on a deal till the end of the season.

Jordan Mutch need a decent CM who’s good on the ball ⚽️

Dasilva

Wes Hoolahan! Creative spark, proven Championship player. Need someone who can create partnerships up front.
— Finn (@DrewFinn5150) 16 August 2018
Not Wes Hoolahan, need a midfielder with pace and someone to be able to play a box to box midfielder role
— Louis Jones (@LouisBCFCJones) 16 August 2018
Patrick Roberts from Man City
— Malkit Singh (@Singh_Mal1990) 16 August 2018
Hoolahan (if we can afford his wages), if not Da Silva seems a good option.

A keeper. Stock and kusckak look as good as gone. Trueman inexperienced and camp is awful, and won’t keep us up. Major problem for me
— matthew hamilton (@mattyhammo02) 16 August 2018
Lee Tomlin not in Cardiff plans our forward line looks light on quality, use youth to pad out midfield..he would be ????#bcfc
— Andy Jackson (@Andyjack83) 16 August 2018
Diaz from city
— Josh Clarke (@jclarke247) 16 August 2018
There were some less serious suggestions as well:
Yaya toure
— Alfiezues (@Alfiezues1) 16 August 2018
Messi
— Rob ???????? (@rstar346) 16 August 2018
Snatch mbappe on a free????
— Arron (@BigArronn) 16 August 2018
I think Hoolahan is the one that would stand out simply because he’s available on a free, and could provide that much needed creative spark in the centre of midfield.
N’Doye and Grounds’ departures would have freed up some of the wage budget too, but the Irish international is now 36 and you do question whether he’s still capable of playing at this level.
Still, we can’t be too choosy, and the loan fees required for the likes of Patrick Roberts would likely be too much. Do you have your own suggestions? Let me know in the comments.
