Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish looks set to be without a few first team faces as his side prepares to take on Sheffield United in this season`s opener at St Andrews.

Suffering from a hamstring problem is defender Radhi Jaidi and new signing Kemy Agustien will also miss out as he recovers from a groin operation

Needing to work on his fitness is Blues` latest signing Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, who only arrived at the club on Thursday, he is unlikely to play a part.

Also missing is Damien Johnson who has a back injury, Lee Carsley takes over as captain.

As far as Sheffield United are concerned, goal threats James Beattie and Keith Gillespie will both be missing.

Gillespie has a sprained ankle while Beattie had a knee operation and has yet to return to match fitness.

Newcomers Matthew Spring and Greg Halford are relay to step in should they get the nod from manager Kevin Blackwell.

David Cotterill looks set to start, Gary Speed and Michael Tonge will take their places in the midfield

Stephen Quinn, Spring, Nick Montgomery and Lee Hendrie will all be hoping to play some part in the game.
