Croatian midfielder Ivan Sunjic has certainly hit the ground running since his summer move to the Blues, quickly becoming a firm fans favourite and an integral part of the team.

22-year-old Sunjic arrived from Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb in the close season for a reported fee of €7m and has played every Championship game for City since coming on as a late substitute in the opening day win at Brentford.

Sunjic is an all-round midfield player, physically competent, technically and tactically savvy and seems very capable of coping with the relentless rigours of Championship football. The Croat, who has made one senior appearance for his national team, also looks able to strike from distance – something he proved in the recent defeat at Derby County.

Understandably, having made such an instant, positive impact on their side, City fans have been across Twitter in their effusive praise for the new midfield talisman. Here’s what’s been said:

Many Birmingham fans used one word superlatives in praise of the new man, while some feel he is of a much higher standard than the players around him.

Sunjic has drawn praise from Blues fans consistently over recent weeks, with some fans even comparing their new midfield maestro to God!

  • I honestly think he looks much better when he plays more offensively rather than sits back in front of the back four

  • Brian clough once said a players ability and size , choses the position he plays in sunjic is a defensive central midfield player , for me his partner in central midfield is bellingham , .the right wing goes to crowley , easily ,..the left wing is Montero ‘s or magoma’s ..the defence is set ..the two strikers are set …we now have cover for the midfield …the next signings have to be a fast striker ,…a tall keeper ,…and a centre back with pace to cover all eventualities …kro

  • Unfortunately we do not have two good strikers, last season Juke and Adams bagged 36 between them and I cant see Juke and Gimenez getting anywhere near that and that is a big problem considering the midfield and defense are not contributing much.
