Do we have the time to wait?

That was my takeaway from Aitor Karanka’s press conference when the Spaniard was talking about Scott Hogan. The forward signed for us last month on a four-year deal after an impressive start to life with us on loan last campaign, form that went away once the season went on hiatus.

It’s a move that has raised an eyebrow or two within the footballing circles, although I maintain there’s a level of recency bias at work there and that eventually Hogan will come good again.

Which is the same message that Blues boss Karanka wanted to get across to fans when talking at his press conference ahead of the game with Stoke City at the weekend:

How many goals will Hogan score this season?

Ten or more

Ten or more

Less than ten

Less than ten

Which is all well and good, but there’s only so long that we can see a goal drought from him before we start to properly panic over the idea of him being a bit of a bust when it comes to signing him.

Hopefully it doesn’t last for too long, because with Blues still struggling to find the back of the net this season, the team needs all the help that it can get in order to move forward, rather than just relying on the defence.

What about you? What do you make of Karanka’s comments on Hogan?

Definitely too risky for a 4 year contract – a brain explosion decision by Karanka – clutching at straws! Sad truth is probably that both our strikers may be past their best. Another acid test against Stoke – we failed the first against Rotherham let’s hope for a convincing win not a 0-0 draw.
