Have Blues really got their priorities right if this is going to be their main target? – Opinion

I’m not saying this guy is wrong, just that he’s probably taking it a bit too far.

Speaking to Football League World, Birmingham City fan Alex Young looked ahead to the January transfer window and what area the Blues need to be focusing on:

“Birmingham should prioritise signing a striker in the January window. The loss of Adams to Southampton and Vassell to Cardiff has left the Blues short of options in that position, with no adequate replacement brought in over the summer. As difficult as January transfers can be, this has to be the priority for the Blues’ recruitment team. Players such as Nakhi Wells, Sean Maguire, perhaps even a move for a promising younger player such as Isaac Success or Michael Obafemi would fit the bill.”

Now whilst I think, as I have said before, that the centre-forward/striker position needs to be addressed, I certainly don’t see it as the priority for the Blues.

In fact if it were up to me, I would actually be looking at players that can help Jutkiewicz play to his strengths. Given his ability to win balls in the air, I’d rather the club actually look for a decent winger who can get regular crosses into Jutkiewicz for him to either head into the net or lay off to someone like Fran Villalba, Jude Bellingham or Alvaro Gimenez to shoot.

Actually if I’m being brutally honest, as has been a bit of a sticking point for me so far this season, I wouldn’t be against us spending money on a decent goalkeeper either. I’ve made my thoughts about Lee Camp known, and if we are going to continue missing out on giving Moha Ramos a chance, then perhaps a solid Championship goalkeeper wouldn’t go amiss.

What about you? Do you think that the club needs to prioritise the centre-forward position in January? Or do you think that the money could be used elsewhere?
